THE CHALLENGE

Having a multi-million dollar effect on the city’s economy, World Skills Calgary 2009 is the second largest event ever staged in Calgary – surpassed only by the 1988 Winter Olympics.

Media Dog’s challenge was to create an easy to manage and effective bilingual website which provides the World Skills global audience with up-to-date, real time information about the competition, its skill categories and its location.

THE SOLUTION

Being a global competition, World Skills requires the means to communicate information on the competition to a global audience in real time. This is where Media Dog stepped in. By utilizing our easy to use, fully functional web content management system, World Skills has been enabled to manage their site so that their viewers can find information they want, quickly and easily.

Full CMS with a bilingual solution
Utilizing Media Dog’s highly functional CMS allows World Skills to easily manage the navigation and information on their site – in multiple languages. The site itself is also a bilingual solution that allows viewers to switch instantly between English and French, and plans are in the works to add yet other languages to the mix.

Controlled Navigation
A simple, yet effective layout provides World Skills competitors, the public and the media with all the tools they need to gather information about the competition. A well-structured navigation system and informational hierarchy also allows viewers to traverse the site in order to easily locate the information they require.

Global Network
Since the World Skills Competition operates globally, Media Dog created interactive features such as a visitor poll, online forms and a daily countdown. As a result, no matter where the viewer lives, these features create a sense of involvement as well as an easy way to provide feedback to World Skills.

THE RESULTS

Media Dog has provided World Skills with an easy to use, interactive website which allows their information to be viewed effortlessly by a global audience. Thanks to Media Dog, World Skills now has the ability to utilize their manpower more effectively in order to prepare for the upcoming competition - while still maintaining and enhancing a world-class event site.
